ケイト・ウィンスレット、新作映画でヴォーグ表紙モデルから戦争特派員に転身したリー・ミラーを演じることが決定

『タイタニック』や『エターナル・サンシャイン』などで知られるイギリスの人気女優ケイト・ウィンスレットが、新作映画でリー・ミラーを演じることが決定した。DailyMailなどが報じている。

『Lee（原題）』というタイトルのこの伝記映画は、ヴォーグの表紙モデルから戦争特派員に転身したリー・ミラーを主人公に、第二次世界大戦中にナチス党を暴こうとした彼女の努力を描いた作品。リー・ミラーの旅を通して、彼女は自分の過去の真実に気づく姿が描かれるという。

Lee Miller (1907-1977). American photographer. . She was an American photographer, photojournalist and Surrealist artist. She was a fashion model in New York City in the 1920s before going to Paris, where she became a fashion and fine art photographer. During the Second World War, she was a war correspondent for Vogue, covering events such as the London Blitz, the liberation of Paris, and the concentration camps at Buchenwald and Dachau. . At age seven, while visiting relatives, Miller was raped by a family friend, leaving her not only traumatized but also with gonorrhea. In 1926, at age 19, she left home for good, began modeling, and enrolled in the Art Students League in Manhattan, where she studied life drawing and painting. That winter she met magazine publishing magnate Condé Nast. Impressed by her beauty, he took her in to be a model for Vogue. Miller was photographed by notable fashion photographers. . Back in Paris, Miller sought out Man Ray and for three years lived with him as his student, collaborator, muse, and lover. He taught her photography, and in 1929 they developed and worked on solarization. They split up in 1932. . Back in New York City, Miller set up a photo studio with her younger brother, Erik. She began doing celebrity portraiture, surrealist photographs, and advertising work. She also continued to model for and began photographing for Vogue. . In 1934 she married an Egyptian man, Aziz Eloui Bey. In 1937 she met the British Surrealist artist Roland Penrose. She he left Bey and moved to London to be with Penrose in 1939. They married in 1947 and had a son. . During World War II, Miller became a prolific contributor of articles and photography to British Vogue. By 1943 Miller had become an accredited war correspondent for Vogue, and the following year she teamed up with Life photojournalist David E. Scherman. Together they followed the 83rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army as it advanced on the front lines. . Despite a struggle with depression, alcoholism, and what is now recognized as PTSD* following the war, she returned to London and continued to take photographs. She died of brain cancer. . 監督は、ジム・キャリーも出演した2004年のヒット作『エターナル・サンシャイン』の撮影監督を務めたエレン・キュラスが担当する。

エレン・キュラスはDeadlineの取材に対し「『エターナル・サンシャイン』で一緒に経験して以来、ケイトと私は何か自分たちの作品でコラボレーションしないかとよく話していました。『Lee（原題）』は、私たちがとても尊敬する素晴らしい作家、リズ・ハンナが書いた脚本をもとに、それを実現するための魅力的な機会を与えてくれました」と心境を明かした。

早ければ来年にも公開される可能性があるこの映画は、リーの息子であるアントニー・ペンローズが書いた「The Lives of Lee Miller」を映画化したものである。

過去にオスカー受賞経験もある女優のケイト・ウィンスレットは、本作の製作にも携わっており、「私がとてつもなく尊敬している女性で、この映画で演じることができてとても感激しています。彼女は、極度の恋人であり、思想家であり、料理人、ヴォーグのカバーガール、戦争特派員、アイコン、そして母親という人物です」とコメントしている。
