『タイタニック』や『ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム・イン・ハリウッド』などで知られる人気俳優のレオナルド・ディカプリオが、ブラジル大統領の非難に対して反論し、話題となっている。
ブラジルでは森林火災をめぐる批判が高まっており、8月にはブラジル大統領のボルソナーロ大統領が根拠のないまま「NGO団体が寄附を募るためにわざとアマゾンに火をつけた」と主張した。さらには、11月28日のインターネット配信の仲でレオナルドがこれに加担していると非難したのだ。29日にも「アマゾンを燃やすためにお金を出したレオナルド・ディカプリオは、大したやつだ」と言い放った。
これに対し、レオナルドはインスタグラムで反論。ボルソナーロ大統領が非難しているNGO団体に資金を提供したことがないと発表した。さらに、アマゾンを保護する運動を支援していることも改めて表明。

They are an amazing, moving and humbling example of the commitment and passion needed to save the environment. The future of these irreplaceable ecosystems is at stake and I am proud to stand with the groups protecting them. While worthy of support, we did not fund the organizations targeted. I remain committed to supporting the Brazilian indigenous communities, local governments, scientists, educators and general public who are working tirelessly to secure the Amazon for the future of all Brazilians."
